I just returned from Mexico where I participated in a Dolphin Adventure and was given a couple very harsh tooth scrapes accross my hand and arm. I followed the instructions of the trainor, so yes it does actually happen. Here is the deal though, I was swimming with a wild animal. No matter how cute they are, I was in thier territory. It happens. I learned later that that particular dolphin has a history of doing such things. When it happened, the pools were cleared of all people and the dolphins were put into a “Time out”, no more play time so they knew it was wrong. The trainors did not punish the animal for doing what is its nature. My advice is no children with dolphins (I was very glad I said no to my own that day) and be aware.

I don’t believe that dolphins bite because I have touched dolphins at sea world and even when I see them in the ocean,they don’t look or act mean to anyone. Who ever talks and says that dolphins are bitters……r wrong. I believe that they are the most lovable creatures that man kind could ever have. I mean really, try swimming with sharks. Like if you would? Of course no one would why because all of you are scared,and with dolphins of course not because they don’t do anything. Maybe the dolphin was trying to get the kids attention but I don’t believe that it was an attack. I mean who knows, maybe the kid was just trying to get attention from the mom. Who will ever know,what happened that night? But I am sure and many people and trainers know that dolphins are lovable and kind.Think about it what was a family doing in sea world so late and so close to them?

Most of you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. It’s a bit sad when the only one that makes any sense on this website is the dolphin. (Loved your post, Mr. Dolphin )

I feel like I have to establish some claim to dolphin related knowledge, so I’m going to just get this out of the way: I’m a marine biology major at an VERY respected marine-centered university.

Now that that’s out of the way, the focus of my education matters far less than a little common sense. The animal in question is a 12-foot long, 600 pound carnivore. They are big, they are strong, and they can be very aggressive. These are animals that, on MANY occasions, have been witnessed ganging up on and beating harbor porpoises to death. These porpoises are about the same size as a preteen child or petite woman.

Dolphins should be treated with caution as much as any other dangerous animal. They can and do attack without provocation and can seriously injure or kill a human being with minimal effort.

Get those childhood fantasies about Flipper out of your head, people. These are wild animals.

Greetings Humans. I am the dolphin in question. It is true that I did bite this little boy and for that I am very sorry. My only excuse is that I had eaten a tuna sandwich earlier that day and was shocked to find that it had little bits of my fellow dolphins in it. What troubled me the most, however, is that I found that I actually liked it!

I’m sure you will understand that, after discovering this disturbing fact about myself, I was a bit vexed and more than a little out of sorts. I lashed out at the first being to present himself; and that being was this poor, unfortunate boy.

After reading all of the responses to the original post, I am troubled over the tendency of some human beings to take the side of a wild animal over that of a small boy. Perhaps, in an ideological sense, you are as cannibalistic as I have so recently found myself to be. Very troubling indeed!

I have also discovered, during the most casual perusal of your responses, that most of you are functionally illiterate and a great many of you are totally unfamiliar with the elementary premises of logic~ Read some Aristotle people! Without any proof whatsoever you automatically assume that the child provoked me and, once the meme was established, you mindlessly ran with it. I find you are all cretins of the first order of magnitude.

Judging by the pure vacuity of the majority of your posts, especially the misspelled diatribes of those of you pretending to some form of higher education (Marine biologist indeed! You couldn’t spell your way out of a wet paper bag much less make it to university…) the Human race is not long for this world. May God have mercy on your boorish souls, for when we dolphins evolve and develope opposable thumbs, we most assuredly will have none!

Hey, No efense i hope your kid is ok and all. But i have a life long love for dolphins, and the ocean. I am a marine byologist, and live in hawaii, and i think your kid was doing something to provoke the dolphin, dolphins rarely do anything bad without being provoked.
