Another Dolphin Bites A Kid
Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

Another child was bitten by a dolphin at a SeaWorld Orlando attraction. The 7-year-old boy reached out to pet the dolphin and was bitten on the thumb during his birthday party. The boy has forgiven the mammal. “I still like dolphins,” he said.

it’s the damn heat…it’s even getting to the sweet dolphins
The dolphin was a young male and they had just gotten done doing the morning trainer interaction which is basically a big play time for the trainers and dolphins so Beetle was just excited. It was not a malicious act as you can see from the picture Hunter has a bond with the dolphins and everytime we go he has them come to him and play hide and seek and when he brings his noodle yoyo they are funny as all get out watching the yoyo go up and down. Beetle was even in one of the pictures Hunter took the day before the bit accident of dolphins that were coming up to him at the underwater viewing window. He just wanted to keep playing and Hunter just happened to be the first to put out his hand. I and the camp counselor that was with us during the slumber party Birthday Party at SeaWorld explained how dolphins use biteing with eachother even from birth as part of thier play and interacting so he knows that Beetle liked him alot to bite him.
Our main objective is to insure that everyone know that we support the trainers and camp counselor in thier speedy response to the accident and have strongly suggested to the Florida Wildlife Commission that charges against SeaWorld are unwarrented and any lawsuit by the family of the Georgia boy bitten we do not support and refuse to allow evidence of this accident to be used by them in such action. It basically is about the same as a 3 year old child that is in it’s oral fixation phase biting another child.
We will be back at SeaWorld next month for 2 visits and will continue our monthly visits but may increse our visits to two a month just to insure that Hunter continues to have his love of the dolphins and this accident does not hurt his enjoyment and love of nature.
Thank You and if you wish to take anything away from this accident we hope that it is important for us to take our children to marine and zoological societyies and parks that offer our children an opportunity to learn about the natural world and understand how these places help sick and injured animals. Also this shows that dolphins may hold a magical place in our hearts and minds but even in a controlled environment the playful nature of these wonderful creatures can lead to accidents that can hurt us so it is very important to abide by the Marine Wildlife Protection Act and not molest or attempt interaction with dolphins in the wild. They love to play but thier play could cause injury to themselves or a human.
And your site is a wonderful resource.
Thanks
Hollie and Hunter
PS the Newsjournal is rampant with the taking something out of contex so there is no Faulting the dolphin for being over excited and the time out was what I told Hunter to get him to go back and work with the trainers to get over the inital fear after the bite.
Oh and yeah it is HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT here uggh I wouldn’t even mind a tropical storm right now if it would rain on my yard
You know, all those years of not eating tuna that wasn’t “Dolphin safe” seem silly now… I mean since we didn’t eat the dolphins, they’re chomping on our youth!
P.S. – Hollie, you might want to run spelling and grammar checks next time you post a comment. All the errors in your LENGTHY statement only make you look unintelligent, and question the validity of your claims.
Maybe the kid was obnoxious and the Dolphin was trying to teach him a lesson.
It’s said that dolphins are intelligent creatures.
Woah! I…I just don’t know what to say.
Google is the best search engine
wow liz… you’re a Bitch! Its not the dolphins fault the kid was up in its grill, and Hollie has the right to write whatever she wants. At least she doesnt have a stick shoved up her ass, like you. Get off your high horse and face the facts. You only wish you had a real opinion that matters and not a stuck-up comment about dolphins and spelling. FYI there isnt spell check here. (only someone like you would analyze every frickin’ detail about their input…if others can read it it’s OK) So next time you decide to share you ‘lovely’ opinions. ask yourself ‘would anyone give a damn about what i have to say?’ or ‘what would tori say?’
seriously, get a grip! (and leave the dolphins out of your bitchzilla comments…thanks, everyone else in the world appreciates it)
oh, liz…your “All the errors in your LENGTHY statement only make you look unintelligent, and question the validity of your claims”…well I thought that was hilarious because you are being a big fat hypocrite! its ‘makes’ not make, honey…shouldn’t you being using your spelling and grammer check?
Waaaww!!
Tori telling the truth attacked the post of liz almost a year after!
Nice going Tori!! I’m 100% with you. And yeah, Liz, .. Stop Bitchzilling in these posts.
giiiiirl, toooori, oh no you didn’! You stuck up nerf-herder! go eat a dolphin! it does teh body gooooood! ya here?!? wuuuurd.
P.S. Waaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww!!
silly childish mongs
what was this seven yr old kid doing to the dolphin? was the dolphin being playful or not?
if u go into a different website and type in dolphins killings u probably see the one where a trainer got killed by a dolphin
No one should EVER go to a Aquarium to see a dolphin show. They are beautiful intelligent creatures that should never be in captivity. One of the dolphins from the TV show “Flipper” named Cathy actually committed suicide while in captivity. Everyone should watch the documentary “The Cove” and you will never want to see a dolphin show again
