Will a massive magenta jellyfish be welcoming us to the New York Aquarium? Maybe, if a proposal that includes the giant invertebrate is selected from the final three designs for the aquarium’s new exterior.

The proposal by West 8 in collaboration with Weisz & Yoes Architecture incorporates man-made dunes connecting the boardwalk to the aquarium with a series of ribbon-like pathways. It also includes the jellyfish-shaped structure—reminiscent of the alien ships from “War of the Worlds,” except this one is magenta colored and presumably not intent on destroying human civilization. The structure would not be a functional building, but more a “gathering space,” according to Golub.

I think they should make one modeled on the jellyfish from “Spongebob”
