Stingray Victim’s 911 Call Released

The 81-year old Florida man who was on his boat Wednesday when a stingray jumped out of the water and stabbed him was apparently pretty calm about the whole thing. Officials have released the 911 call made by Bertakis and his granddaughter.

11 Dispatcher: What’s the problem? Tell me exactly what happened.

Bertakis: A stingray jumped in the boat. It hit me.

911 Dispatcher: OK. Where did it sting you at, sir? Where did it sting you at?

Bertakis: In the chest — right by my heart!

Bertakis’ Granddaughter: The stingray came out and I think it jumped on the boat. I think it cut into him.

Bertakis was listed in critical, but stable condition on Friday.
