He had just rescued someone and then he and a mate returned to the water. On their way in he was taken and just disappeared. The Transkei has no nets, has plenty of sharks, and is a really great place to surf...except for the sharks. Really sad losing a guy like that who made a real difference in his community. Johns back in the early 1990's when I was a more reckless young man and there was always a lot of shark activity on just about every dive there. I always felt that the surfers, boogie boarders and body surfers around Second Beach were playing a game of Russian Roulette if they only knew what we were seeing on just about every dive.
