Record Bull Shark Caught off Corpus Christi at Swim At Your Own Risk

Record Bull Shark Caught off Corpus Christi

bull.jpg
A new state record bull shark was caught in Aransas Bay last week by Randall Rickerson of Corpus Christi. The previous state record was a 508-pound shark caught in the Gulf.

This one, caught on Friday, May 18, weighed in at 513 pounds and was nine feet long. Rickerson reportedly had a two hour and 10 minute fight to bring it in and then it took 2-1/2 hours to tow in the boat and shark.

Don’t go swimming in those waters…

Dude…like angie said that thing is so huge!…what…shark hunting? its called fishing….sharks are fish and people dont mind fishing for fish so whats the difference steph?

  5. 5stickman

poor shark, why cant sharks swim there?

  6. 6Shark B8

the thing wrong with it WAZ is that sharks can not bounce back with offspring as quickly as most fish can….depletion of species…not good not good at all!

  7. 7Bert

Depletion of HUGE shark species IN ARANSAS BAY is not bad at all. This is not the OCEAN people.

  8. 8JAMES

shark fishing is a blast if they were in danger it would be banned. that fish is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sharks should be downsized. Someone should figure out a way to keep them off beaches. Nurse sharks, we can keep. Bull sharks should be exterminated.

  14. 14angela

That shark looks like a guy I dated. Especially the belly! LOL!

  15. 15Nathan

Bull sharks should be exterminated? When they start walking the streets, then we can talk about extermination. Until then, swim in the pool if you don’t wanna see sharks.

Oh please, get over it . . . . Its small. One caught in a river estuary here in south africa was over 12 feet long. . . Funny thing is, it went 15 kilometers upstream

I want to know if all you people defending sharks would be singing that same tune if you got your legs or balls bit off by a shark!

  20. 20ton

Just wandering what was done with the bull shark after it was brought on land ? Just disgaurded? Thrown away? why not catch it snap a few pics and cut it lose. It is a shame wander how big it would have gotten had it not been killed.

  22. 22ace

Down size the sharks. Giant bull sharks should scare the hell out of everyone.

Having spent alot of my life at the beach around Corpus Christi, including fishing and quite a bit of surfing, I developed a keen interest in sharks. I’ve been bumped at least twice by them and attacked (near miss by a six footer) once while sitting on my surf board. I believe that because of the unique nature of bull sharks (e.g., swim shallow & in non-salt water, continue to attack, etc) they are my top candidate for extreme thinning out.

P.S. to my previous posting: The near miss was my own fault as I was out there in the evening when the waves were full of mullet. I wasn’t actually surfing, just enjoying the beautiful evening on the water with my girlfriend. Needless to say, we went to the beach in record time, which is also what I did when I was bumped on other occasions. However, I have always recommended Corpus Christi as a wonderful and safe place to enjoy all water sports; just use your head, like on any other subjects.

why can’t it swim there? because bull sharks are the most aggressive sharks in the ocean, and that motherfuckers huge!

  26. 26Nathan

That shark is a real good catch i wish i had caught it

  27. 27Mercedes

I think fishing sharks is just like fishing anything else, plus this is a very dangerous specie. What is more important a human been or a shark? Specially the bull shark. Why keep around such a blood thirsty killer around us.

  28. 28IM a surfer/shark lover

I for one honestly know sharks are NOT NOT NOT blood thursty eaters. they always mistake us with mollet but if u take percossion its fine. ive been surfing the beaches sencie i was a baybe!! and ive seen sharks and and all you people out in this world think that they need to be exingwished but that was THEIR habitat for four million years so we should all share the ocean peacfuly!!!and if your a surfer like me and your sorrta afraid of sharks talk to me on facebook :)
