Catching Great Whites in Delaware is a No No
Friday, June 8th, 2007

A fisherman nabbed what is believed to be a juvenile great white shark just eight miles off Indian River Inlet in Delaware on Saturday. Even though it was a juvenile, it was still 5 1/2 ft long and weighed 179 lbs! That’s a pretty big youngster.
Apparently, the man who caught the shark could be in big trouble. He could face thousands of dollars in fines for possession of a prohibited species.

I’m glad he will get in trouble you dang fishermen better leave the sharks alone, they are the freakin apex predator of the seas and if we get rid of them we will be doomed!!! AHHHHHHHH
blah blah…its a touchy subject we know very little about, no one has any substantial proof great whites are in danger…as an apex predator there would theoretically be less of them than other sharks…blah blah…assumptions after assumptions. Any hard real proof…but there is a point to all sides…blah!
Wow! I used to fish there when I was a kid. I caught baby sharks all the time! I even went swimming there! Who knew there would ever be a great white in those waters. I seriously don’t think I’ll go swimming in the ocean ever again anywhere! And I don’t think that shark should have been killed. It was just a baby and now it’s got one pissed off mamma. I wander where she is. Looks like this is a JAWS 4 in the making!
They already made Jaws 4. It was the one in the Bahamas or whever it was. Mario Van Peebles was in it.
Yup Waz, no hard proof at all. You would know because you are a marine biologist. So kill ‘um all until you read the study that finally convinces you right?
haha…lol thats funny though, the only proof is largely based on encounters, there is no easy was to do an underwater sample. Aerial surveys havent provided enough evidence as to the GWS numbers. GWS numbers seem to have bounced back from incident reports, taggings etc so kill them all? There are still plenty of protective shark nets hanging off beaches around the world…when they kill GWS’s then is attention drawn to them. Penalise the guy but it seemed he didnt know what he was soing…dont issue a death sentence to him like Shark B8 would have. Its a touchy subject where research opinion and eventually facts helps develop a real undertanding.
I must have had a freudian slip there…that kill them all…bit shouldnt have got in…now thats funny.
How dare you respond intelligently, Waz? I was looking for a fight. LOL
I can’t believe I missed JAWS 4!! I got too caught up with Shark Attack 1, 2 & 3
Sorry My Bad. Still though….a Great White in the Indian River Inlet is pretty cool. Too bad it’s dead. I hope it’s Mamma does go after that fisherman!
S’up Sharky…All right, fight you want, fight you get…I next time I go fishing it will be for shark and I hope I catch you…I will make sure I the hook is really sharp so it will pierce you loose jaws and then…then I will drag you behind my boat and go make bait out of you and mount your jaws on the wall on my office over looking our shark tanks…no real malice there…huh! Good One Bro
The only way you’d ever be able to catch me is with a net, or maybe a harpoon. I’m not dumb enough to bite anyone’s hook.
I WAS AT INLET WHEN THIS SHARK WAS BROUGHT IN. FIRST OF ALL YOU DONT DRAG A PROTECTED SPECIES INTO DOCK IF YOU KNOW IT. SO WHY DIDNT THE FISHERMAN KNOW IT? ASK THE DNRC GUYS THEY HAD IT HANGING IN FRONT OF THEM AND IT TOOK THEM 20 MINUTES AND THEY HAD TO REMOVE A TOOTH TO VERIFY IT.SO ALL YOU CYBER SPACE EXPERTS SHOULD GET A GRIP.I BET YOU COULDNT TELL A PORBEAGLE FROM A GROUPER.
just to let you know it looks like a greatwhite, but unfortunatlly it looks like a porbeagle..closely related to the greatwhite as also the salmon shark is.
But if it is a great white kill all people that catch a protected species..
like the bastards in mexico that caught a great white cut its head off and stuffed it in an ice box, luckily fisheries nabbed them back in port and busted them with a $200,000.00 dollar fine.
that will teach them a lesson.
i dont get what he would be in trouble for just catching the dang shark. but i was googling about great whites in delaware maryland because the other day i found out that they have been swimming in delaware so i just wanted to know the real truth. is it true? if you know post back.
i have been reading other peeples comments. so i think it is true. great white sharks are in delaware. i think i am scared now. but at least there only the second dangerous sharks. :/. the bull shark is my favorite and he is the most dangerous shark. he kills. pwns. and even swims through fresh water to salt without a problem.
