“Big Fish” Attacks Man in St. Martin

cuda.jpg
A male tourist was bitten on his ankle/shin after a vicious attack by a “big fish” at the Mullet Bay beach Wednesday afternoon in St. Martin. Apparently, the bite wound was deep, almost to the bone, and that it had a round shape. They aren’t sure whether it was a shark or a barracuda… but they do know that whatever it was, it was big.

    Barracudas are vicious! I was bitten by one years back, honestly it was barely a bite, more of a scratch, yet still there the scars are…lol, nothing compared to a shark mauling though…Either way, I love them both.

    There was a severe and well documented barracuda attack on a spearfisherman in Key West a while back. More about the story and photos appear at:

    Just came back from St.Maarten & saw huge barracuda at Dawn beach while swimming in only about 3 feet of water., needless to say I got out of the water

    Just came back from St.Maarten and saw a 4 foot barrcuda right at the shore line. His name is Barry and he has been a long time residence at Dawn beach according the Westin staff. I snorkel every day for 7 days no problems with the big fish. Do not wear any shining jewelry while swimming.

    I just left carnival cruise, on an excursion on StMarteen i snorkeled at Dawn beach. about 30 yds off shore in about 10-15ft deep a large barracuda was staring and smiling at me like a scooby snack. I panicked and swam to shore pulling my girlfriend in tow. I think my flippers were still flopping on shore, lol. I never looked back but my guess was at least 5 or 6ft long and fat, with a grinning smile. no injuries :}
