Shark Bites 12-Year-Old Girl off Daytona Beach

A 12-year-old Orlando girl became Volusia County’s 13th shark bite victim of the year Monday.
Beachgoers said they could see the circular teeth marks on the young girl’s arm.
The girl and her family were staying in Daytona Beach for the Labor Day weekend and had just checked out of their hotel Monday. Her parents decided to spend a few more hours at the beach. She was swimming in waste deep water when the shark came out of nowhere.
There have been 13 bites in Volusia County so far this year and, while most are minor, some swimmers aren’t so lucky. A surfer near Ponce Inlet had his hand nearly bitten off by a shark at the end of August.
Still, Beach Patrol say shark bites are rare. Yeah right.

“Still, Beach Patrol say shark bites are rare.”
And they would say that if there had been 30 attacks too, don’t want to mess with tourism $$$.
Daytona beach SHOULD have been closed 2 months ago, friggin rediculous…
These bites ain’t too severe…Still, I don’t think I’d let my children swim New Smyrna…
Yep, a nice quiet pool will do just fine…..after I check it for lurking gators -n- crocs!
Anybody who swims in these waters is an idiot.
I was 15 minutes South in Ormand Beach all week. My brother-in-law and I spent many hours in waist to neck deep water that week and never once did I feel concerned about a shark. Your odds are better getting struck by lighting in the state of Flordia. I would be more concerned about getting stung by a jellyfish (which did happen on the 6th). We should all enjoy the oceans, just remember to be aware and respectful of your surroundings.
Happy Body-Boarding!!!!!!!!
What exactly does being “respectful of your surroundings” have to do with it?
And it never fails. Let someone mention shark attacks and it never fails that we the “lightining strike” comparison. Never mind that one has nothing to do with other and that far more people spend far more time in areas that are popular to lightning storms than with shark encounters.
I have a stat for you. More people have died from choking on popcorn, than those who’ve died from falling while doing hand-stands atop the Empire State Building. So the conclusion must be, that doing hand-stands on skyscrapers is safer than eating popcorn?
That’s a girl??????????? OMG. no…. that’s not a girl.
Umm…………… yea……. unless it’s something amazing. I really can care less. Unless that was me or my Bff.
i liked the popcorn thing. thats kinda funny. lol. i wasnt concerned about sharks either and i didnt get bit by one. though tat would be an adventure. hurt like h*** too.
