Hayden Panettiere Hearts Dolphins

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere was in tears yesterday after watching the slaughter of a pod of dolphins.
The actress was among 30 protesters who paddled on surfboards in an attempt to stop Japanese fisherman during their annual dolphin massacre.
But before the surfers could reach the dolphins, a fishing boat intervened using the boat’s propellers to block their way.
The fishermen then produced a long boathook to chase off the protesters. Dang! They mean business!
The confrontation lasted more than 10 minutes before the surfers were forced to return to the beach.
A defeated Panettiere is now back in LA.

Hey, you’re in my neck of the woods now.
I like it.
Save the Cheerleader, Save the Dolphins…
Yes, it is sad. However, they are trying to stop people from going about their way of life because they don’t like that they rely on the sea so much as a food source. How are you going to tell an entire culture they need to change their ways simply because you disapprove?
We need more people like this on the planet. Stick up for whats wrong. They stood against something that could of harmed them, for something taht was right. And Rob, what are you saying, so because a culture does something, means its right? What about women getting circumsized? Or little kids getting raped because ignorant assholes think little virgin babies will cure HIV? Do we just let that go by too? Because and entire culture practices it doesnt mean its right
I’d agree that just because a culture says does something doesn’t mean it’s right. Yet each of your examples involve harm to people – with which I agree. But those are poor comparisons. Just because some Hindu worships a cow doesn’t mean it’s wrong to eat meat
All cultures changes. No civilized nations thinks this is alright. NONE. I say again civilized.
it’s not like they’re fishing them out of extinction for the heck of it. another culture would say the same thing about the USA and cows and chickens. just b/c that particular animal had a hit TV show a generation ago doesn’t mean it’s not edible. This shouldn’t be analogous to western tuna fishermen killing the dolphins caught in their nets.
blah blah blah, it’s wrong b/c flipper is cute and he’d totally kill a shark for you. that makes eating other animals okay b/c they wouldn’t likely attempt to save your life?
human are just animals, they act in instinc, but they deny it. human think they-re the superior animals, how you know that the other animals dont think.human has the paradigm to know everything, the paradigm of this world, but why dont they think that animals also have their “world”, where the most dangerous “animal” is “human being”.
uhhh, the japanese people hunt, trap, and kill these dolphins for profit, not for major consumption!
they sell many to sea-life parks worldwide and gain profit from them. some ARE killed for food, but the vast majority arent! either way, eating dolphin is insanely bad for your body due to its crazy high Mercury levels… yet they feed this to japanese schoolkids?!?!?!?
oh and these massive slaughters are relatively new, just as is the demand for dolphins at sea-life parks… yeah, maybe 50 someodd years may seem like a long time, but thats no true cultural tradition! the old japanese tradition consisted of killing maybe only a few dolphins/whales and leaving the young alive, this slaughter engulfs every single animal, young or old, male or female!
save them and you’ll save the japanese kids/consumers from getting cancer… along with keeping, in my opinion, the most enigmatic animals on earth alive…
If you think you can justify killing wild animals just for fun, then watch this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/21686714#21686714
Wouldn’t you wish someone helped you if you were the surfer? Who is more humane, you or the dolphins?
I hope more protests can be done in the future, involving more people, and preferably on live tv, while people can justify on that moment, killing innocent wild animals just for fun.
