Shark Makes Itself At Home In Whangarei

Five separate sightings of a shark south east of Whangarei, New Zealand area have put local residents and surf lifesavers on high alert.

While the species of the shark has yet to be identified, local residents are speculating the predatory fish is a mako.

But with an average of only two shark attacks a year, the experts agree the chance of becoming the victim of a shark attack is minimal. If you ask me, two is two too many.

Shark expert Clinton Duffy suggests getting as quickly and quietly out of the water as possible (yeah, right). Duffy says, “Splashing and panic seems to attract the attention of sharks. They’re opportunist predators and something struggling in the water may look like an easy meal to them.”

I’d suggest staying out of the water completely.
