The plant will oxygenate the water enough for small fish, as long as they are full gill breathing fish, nothing like a betta or gourami who breath atmospheric air. I would worry about snails and shrimp popping the condom, but if you got small algae or plant eating fish they would do fine. Oxygen, check. Food, check. Ingenuity, check.
Maybe it would be better as a planted and invertebrate aquarium only, or….i wonder how salt water would react with latex. do lambskin condoms breathe more? I imagine they are still waterproof. Oh, and it’s not four in the morning here, to make me look like a little less of a loser.
While the plant will produce oxygen, this is far from a perfect ecosystem, and will be polluted in a very short period of time, killing all inhabitants, including the plant. Ingenuity? I’ve long held that any container for housing fish of less than 3 gallons is cruel and mean. Just because a human COULD survive it’s life in a 4×8 cell doesn’t mean they SHOULD, or will be at all healthy.
Al good points. Like i said though, it would be a better idea for invertebrates and plants only. And seeing as invertebrates(and fishes) minds are NOTHING like a humans, it really wouldnt be a problem for hem living in such small quarters. And if it was I would sing to them at night to comfort them.
Tap water contains chlorine, without the use of Prime, AmQuel, AP Tap Water Conditioner or Aquasafe the fish will die.The nitrification cycle will also kill the fish rapidly, amonia waste(toxic) will not be converted into nitrate(toxic) which in turn will not be turned in nitrite(safe), this is due to the lack of nitrosomnas and nitrobacter bacterium that take 4 weeks to develop. Most dissolved o2 enters the water by photosynthesis of aquatic plants this needs a lot of light. A 450mm freshwater high output tropical lamp with it’s own balast (like mine) is recommended. This “self sustaining” system will stagnate and die in days.
I doubt this is self-sustaining, like fishhead said. I don’t know enough about these concepts to be accurate, though. This video is humorous…especially the double meanings that relate to your sperm. I hope people don’t do this experiment just because it’s not a complete ecosystem. But, hey, the basic cycle CONCEPT is cool.
I hope no one follows your idea. I’d like to see you put your energies into better projects. These fish with suffocate and die from their own wastes. Perhaps do an artificial aquascape. (dirt/plants, floating plastic fish). Heck , build a model ship in there. BTW too bad this is the best use of a condom for you j/k
The ecosystem will work fine. Although using a glass contain would be better. I recall seeing something similar at a store where a glass sphere had the same set-up. For Oxygen, the plant will make enough of it for the fish and snail, and they supply the plant with co2. For food, the small fish will nibble on the plant. The snail eat the algae on the sides. And the plant has light… As for waste, the fish and snail might eat it every once in a while. And the plant will try any that stays near it’s roots and decomposes, but none the less, the rate of waste coming in will allow many years of life before being a problem. The housing with break first.

Diego on The Biggest Fish Ever Caught!: "Hey Mermaid would you please lay off the estrogen? It would be very helpful to..."
Neat concept, but won’t last long. It’s on such a small scale that without outside oxygen and food it has a very limited lifespan.
it’s “VOILA”. There’s no such word as “wallah.” “Voila” is French for “See!” or “Look There!”
Will the latex not kill the fish inside it?
Too bad Dad didn’t use one, this “Wallah” Condom-Aquarium Inventor wouldn’t be here…
the fish will survive becouse of the plant life and snails they will life for quit some time
does this really work? looks cool though!

Not meant for expensive or sentimental fish. Man, i could tweak this to perfection. And intend to!

I shot a load if fish into my condom.
No really!
LMAO

this is why condoms are for dicks
and fish tanks are for fishies!

What that means is that non human animals(at least fishes and inverts) do not have such a problem with phsychological health.
Clean that freakin grout in the tile, thats nasty.
You can get the smell of fish much easier…
nice, don’t think it will last long. how do you put food in there?

Ahha.. And how do they eat? -.-
