Monster 6-Gill Shark Caught on Film

Holy hello! A shark bigger than a submarine was spotted by some oceanographers in Hawaaii… and it was swimming just a few feet away from them!

It happened just off the coast of Moloka’i. Most sharks are known to have just five gills… some have been spotted with six, but they weren’t this big.

Dr. Eric Vetter of Hawaii Pacific Univeristy was on board the submarine and said, “We’re pretty much blown away. Usually we’re seeing small eels, small crustaceans, shrimp, things called anthropods, but in this case we had what appeared to be a 17 feet to 18 foot, six gill shark.”

I’ve watched so many scary movies in my life it’s hard to keep track. That is seriously one of if not the most scariest videos I have ever seen. Especially when the shark is swimming at the camera in the first ten seconds, just the way the dirt envelops it terrifies me.

Sixgill Sharks are harmless you sillies.

6 Gill sharks also reside around Hornby Island, one of the (northern) Gulf Islands, near Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Divers often swim near them.

Not all sharks are dangerous to people. In fact of the over 300 species in existence only a handful of species have ever attacked people. Six gilled sharks are not in the least bit aggressive towards divers or any other humans. They are just gorgeous and you should consider yourself EXTREMLY lucky if you ever encounter one, although a six gilled would not likely stick around as long as it does in this video.

I believe that this is simply a Sleeper Shark, odd though, they are usually found in deep sea water around dead whales, very rarely caught on camera.

I have to agree with Noah , been on many vacations and seen many sharks – even swam with one – but im not brave it was a toothless shark. this is definitely a couch potato shark – still would not want to slip into its mouth – it would be like a giant carp and swallow you whole

I’ve killed plenty of six gilled sharks and they are totally harmless. I’ve yet to see one do so much as nip at me as I dive onto their backs and stab them to death with my diver’s knife.
