Shark Attack In Brazil… Read The Signs, People

A shark attacked and seriously injured a 14-year-old surfer today off the coast of northeastern Brazil.

Juan Rodrigues Galvao de Franca was bitten in the leg while surfing off the Del Cifre beach in Pernambuco state.

Juan managed to break loose from the shark’s jaws (with a deep gash in his left leg and a lot of blood loss) and swam to shore where he was rescued by a passing ambulance crew.

The attack occurred in an area that is off-limits to bathers and surfers because of frequent shark attacks… now totaling 52 since they started keeping track in ‘92. Warning signs are posted in the area.

This is just 10 days after a shark ripped off the right hand of a 14-year-old kid while he was swimming along the coast of Pernambuco, about 20 miles south of today’s attack scene.
