Shark Scare at Bayside Beach!

Hmmm, maybe that helicopter isn’t really doing it’s job. Sightings of a 9 ft shark at a Bayside Beach, Australia forced swimmers out of the water today.

The shark was first reported off Parkdale Beach at 4pm and police patrolled the beach for hours trying to spot it.

About 20 people were told to get out of the water although a helicopter patrol had failed to sight the shark at that stage.

Police were particularly concerned for the safety of one women swimming far from the shore, but she eventually noticed the helicopter and returned to land. Phew!

UPDATE: Apparently there were a couple people swimming about 45 ft from the shark. Chopper pilot Capt Chris Sherwood said he tried to scare the shark away by bringing the helicopter in close but it refused to move. Read more here.
