Maintenance Man Loses Half A Finger to Gator in Florida

Surgeons were able to save his thumb but Raymundo Velasquez still lost half of his index finger after being chomped on by a gator while picking up trash near a lake in South Florida. He was reaching to pick up a plastic bottle when the gator lunged at him, grabbed his hand and pulled him in the water.
Velasquez escaped but said he was “confused” so he made a tourniquet from a plastic bag and plastic tape and continued to work. Huh?
The company he works for, Maia Lawn and Landscape Services, is based in Boynton Beach and when Velasquez said he was reluctant to tell his family what happened his boss said, “Just tell them you had an accident and you’ll be OK.” She also brought him McDonald’s hamburgers, soda and clothes.
