Shamu Attacks and Kills Pelican!
Tuesday, February 24th, 2009
Someone filmed this while watching the “Believe” show at SeaWorld San Diego last week (starring Shamu the Killer Whale). During the show a Pelican landed on the water and Shamu was apparently pretty hungry.

AWESOME – Taste just like chicken!
i can’t believe they kept playing the music as if the show were still continuing as normal. yeah, a celine dion wannabe’s warble makes the perfect soundtrack for a dismemberment.
Just goes to show that even in captivity, they are still wild animals. Next time it could be a trainer.
That’s feakin’ great!!! I mean GREAT! Think about it they are captive animals that have been trained to obey the whistles and yet a hunt and kill occurs and all of the whales in the tank instinctively attacks the prey that they have found! They have talked about how they still attack the birds that land int he water but during a show!!! Rock on!!!! I hope that this brings to light to all those audience members that they are still predators and not these cute little whales!!
Although the best part truly is that the trainers had no idea what to do once the whales started to go with their instincts rather then what the whistle was telling them to do!!
I love Orcas!
Nice Scoop…I have appropriated it accordingly.
Hey, a mammal’s gotta eat
The music is the best part.
to “PUREHATRED”…..hey buddy i think the natural instincts of killer whales in captivity would be to eat anything that lands in there bowl besides their trainer since im guessing thats the eventual outcome of how they think when in there…
Look, apparently these trainers need to feed the Orcas birds instead of just fish. It would be much healthier, and less controversial, just to give the Orcas a carefully selected, but nonetheless varied, diet of both birds and fish than to risk this happening again.
No matter how much show you put into an animal, you can’t take the wild out. And it’s not “cool” for them to feed on potentially diseased prey. It’s pitiful that they weren’t given the proper diet in the first place.
Hey, they aren’t called ‘killer whales’ for nothing.
My favourite things about this video are:
a) The whales acted like a pod when it came down to shredding the bird. Nose to nose in the water like that was amazing to see.
b) The music still playing in the background throughout.
b) How long that person stayed just to tape it all, down to the last bird bits.
c) The crowd’s reaction to the handlers scooping up pelican chum. They cheered more than once. People are sick
PureHatred You are really right!
tell us what gonna happen next year lol
One year exactly after your comment a shamu killed his trainer
