Dubai Shark Tank Springs A Leak

Water was seen leaking from a Dubai mall’s massive fish tank, which holds more than 2 million gallons of water and 33,000 captive sea creatures. According to the Dubai newspaper, “It is believed that a leak occurred in the 270-degree acrylic walk-through tunnel, but it was sealed quickly.”

Uh, anyone see Jaws 3-D?

Aquarium Worker Bitten By Shark!

_46567300_40297671
A man was been bitten by an angel shark at an aquarium in North Queensferry, Scotland.

The 23-year-old staff diver suffered between 15 and 20 lacerations, each roughly a centimetre long, in the attack at Deep Sea World.

He was bitten on the hand by an angel shark, also known as a monkfish, which is usually about 5ft (1.5m) long. The man’s wounds were dressed by paramedics and he was later released. Deep Sea World has begun an investigation into the incident.

In a statement, Deep Sea World bosses said: “A member of staff had received an injury while diving in the aquarium’s main ocean display.

“Initial reports would indicate the male member of staff received cuts to his hand after apparently being bitten by an angel shark – a native shark species which is also known as a monkfish.
“The member of staff was treated at the aquarium but did not require hospitalisation.
“A full investigation is currently being carried out into the incident.”

The centre has been trying to raise awareness of shark conservation, as part of European Shark Week which ends on Sunday.

The angel shark is an ambush predator which lies in wait for unsuspecting prey to venture close enough before attacking them.

Monterey Bay Puts White Shark on Display… Again

20577474_640X480
For the fifth time, the MBA has placed a young white shark on exhibit.

The new 5 feet 3-inch female was collected on Aug. 12 near Malibu after she got caught in fishing nets. The shark is eating and seems comfortable. She was moved Wednesday to the 1 million gallon outer bay exhibit where they hope to keep her for a couple months before releasing her.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is still the only aquarium in the world ever to keep a young white shark for more than 16 days.

Saturday’s Victim: The Gory Details

530838
Les Wade had been surfing alone at Seven Mile Beach, Gerroa, for an hour on Saturday morning when a wave brought him closer to shore about 8.30am.

He’d just gotten off his board and was standing on the sand in waist-deep water about 60 feet from shore. He started walking and was just about to jump back on his board when he felt something hit him from behind. At first he thought it was another surfer knocking into him but when he turned around there was a 6 ft shark staring at him.

The shark eventually took off but had already chowed down on Wade’s leg and foot. The shark’s teeth had dragged some deep wounds along his skin, including a 6″ gash on his shin and a wound to the heel. You could peel the skin back see the bone. Ew.

Wade’s wounds were cleaned and checked for any lingering shark teeth before receiving more than 50 stitches. He was released from hospital five hours later.

Ha had planned to return to the ocean as soon as possible but after a rough night of reliving the incident in his head, he’s having second thoughts.

Shark Kills Tankmate!

05800302shark1jpg
An aggressive bull shark exhibited at Shenzhen Xiaomeisha Aquarium attacked and killed it’s tankmate of ten years on Sunday.

The 7 foot bull shark had a long history as a troublemaker. It began slaughtering other fish in the tank after being bought by the aquarium mistakenly as an “ordinary” shark in 1999. The killing spree continued for three years until an aquarium expert ID’d the shark as a bull shark.

Since 2002 the aquarium has kept the bull shark in a zone separated from other fish except the ill-fated lemon shark, which was also considered violent. On Sunday, aquarium staff found the lemon shark murdered.

15 Sharks Die At Indy Zoo

85867241dt7xbbnbbonnetheadsharkp2rw
Fifteen bonnethead sharks at the Indianapolis Zoo died early Tuesday after an overdose of chemicals was added to their tank.

The sharks were found dead Tuesday. Vets at the zoo said that the sharks died as a result of too much ozone (an oxygen molecule in an electrically charged state that oxidizes, or dissolves, organic waste products in a pond or fish tank.) A system in the sharks’ tank was taken offline for maintenance Monday night and was unable to provide an accurate signal to the ozone generator, which continued to add ozone to the water overnight.

Two emperor snappers also housed in the tank survived the incident.

Space-Saving Aquarium!

A Chinese firm has come up with the perfect solution for fish-lovers who don’t have room for an aquarium: the fish tank toilet!

The toilet has three separate tanks – one for water flowing in, one for water flowing out, and a third for fish and underwater plants – ensuring that the fish always have enough water to swim in, and are never sucked into the bowl.

Oh yeah, and they’re also environmentally friendly… because the flushing tank has been reduced to make space for the fish tank, the toilet uses far less water than regular toilets, and the device that lights the fish tank can also be used instead of bathroom lighting, cutting electricity bills.
