Surgeons were able to save his thumb but Raymundo Velasquez still lost half of his index finger after being chomped on by a gator while picking up trash near a lake in South Florida. He was reaching to pick up a plastic bottle when the gator lunged at him, grabbed his hand and pulled him in the water.
Velasquez escaped but said he was “confused” so he made a tourniquet from a plastic bag and plastic tape and continued to work. Huh?
The company he works for, Maia Lawn and Landscape Services, is based in Boynton Beach and when Velasquez said he was reluctant to tell his family what happened his boss said, “Just tell them you had an accident and you’ll be OK.” She also brought him McDonald’s hamburgers, soda and clothes.
One of my personal favorites, The Sun, posted some badass photos of showman Sean Manning snorkeling with 9 ft alligator. Manning is part of the Gator X-treme show at Miami’s Jungle Island Zoo, in Florida, and apparently has huge balls.

An 8 ft crocodile closed three beaches north of Cairns, AU and gave trappers the slip after swimming into Ellis Beach’s stinger net on Saturday night.
Swimmers left the water after the croc was spotted lurking about 30 feet off shore at Kewarra and Clifton Beach on Saturday morning, and then Palm Cove in the afternoon.
The crocodile was finally caught at Palm Cove early yesterday and was taken to a holding facility in Cairns and will be relocated to a croc farm or zoo.
Officials in Queensland who have been investigating the fate of Arthur Brooker, 62, said they had found the remains inside one of three big crocodiles captured in the Endeavour River.
Three crocs were caught in the area and taken in for questioning investigation. One was ruled out as a possible culprit but the other two will be subjected to further tests following the discovery of human tissue.
Police said that at this stage no more crocodiles will be trapped and the croc ruled out as a suspect would be returned to the river.
No such luck for the largest of the three suspects. A return to the wild has been ruled out for the 14ft male, which had shown aggressive territorial behavior. He’ll be sent to a farm… far, far away from humans.
According to livenews.com, police are searching for a man thought to have been taken by a large crocodile near Cooktown, in far north Queensland, AU this morning.
The 63-year-old man was last seen around 8.30am when he left his campsite on the Endeavour River, where he was staying with his wife, to go and check his crab pots.
His wife began searching for him when he had not returned to the campsite two hours later.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife rangers said she found the broken crab pot rope on the river bank, next to a number of large crocodile slide marks and the couple’s new video recorder. Hmmm, that doesn’t sound good.
No sign of the man has been found and police strongly suspect a crocodile attack.
UPDATE: According to The Australian, Police found a sandal and a wristwatch belonging to the missing man!
A surfer’s leg was ripped to shreds by a croc while he was surfing in Playa Hermosa. (Not the guy above. Check the pic of the damage below). Heavy rains flooded the Tulin River sending some of the local croc population into the surfing areas. Apparently, whenever it rains, the crocs head for the beach.
UPDATE: According to SurfingMagazine.com, the victim was 13 year old Dakota Kilbride. There was a special delivery of skin tissue from Miami to graft onto his leg, but it turns out he didn’t need it. Hang in there, Dakota.
A crocodile killed and devoured a 25-year-old man in Bangladesh who waded into a pond next to a shrine hoping to be blessed by the animal on Wednesday.
Rubel Sheikh and his mother travelled 30 miles from their home to visit the Muslim Khan Jahan Ali shrine.
Hundreds of people visit the shrine every day to offer hens and goats to the five crocodiles living in the pond. Part of the ritual also involves bathing in the water.
Rubel went into the pond hoping to be blessed when a crocodile attacked him and dragged him into the deep part of the pond.
According to officials, the crocs are usually very friendly and don’t harm people.
After the attack about 25 people dived into the pond, but couldn’t find the man’s body.
A drunk man was brutally killed by as many as eight crocodiles when he tried to touch one of them at a wildlife sanctuary in northeastern Mexico.
The drunk dude apparently jumped over a railing so he could touch a crocodile in Lake Carpintero. Uh, smart move. But then he was surprised by a second croc, who grabbed him by the arm and pulled him into the water.
The incident took place in front of 50 other tourists Sunday. The man is yet to be identified.
Reminder: Don’t get drunk and try to pet crocodiles.
Doctors were unable to reattach the arm of the 11-year-old boy who was attacked by an alligator after the limb was retrieved from the reptile’s belly.
Ochsner Hospital surgeons tried to reattach Devin Funck’s left arm, which had been rushed to the New Orleans hospital after its recovery about three-and-a-half hours after the attack, but family friend Cory Dunn said the effort was unsuccessful.
Devin was in stable condition last night.
An enormous alligator, dubbed “Big Joe” by residents, attacked Devin, biting off his arm at the shoulder.
Big Joe was found within half an hour of the attack, but it took another two-and-half hours to kill and land the big reptile, cut it open and retrieve the arm.
