The 16th season of Real World/Road Rules Challenge premieres tonight 10pm on MTV. And according to teasers, the contestants, 20 Real Worlders and Road Rulers are dropped off into shark-infested waters in Panama. Hot.
Cast members will face off in Cocas del Toro, yet in an unexpected turn of events, MTV is promising that this season will be different - no free-flowing alcohol at will, no cushy house, and no challenges “that call for sneaky alliances.”
Hmmm… sounds more like Survivor.

Same old crap… When bodies begin missing in the coastal town of Full Moon Bay, fisherman Daniel Wilder (John Schneider) discovers the culprit: a swarm of mutant Great White sharks, forty strong, cutting through the waters with one horrifying purpose—to kill. As tourist season quickly becomes feeding time, Daniel enlists the help of his wife Brook (Daryl Hannah) and marine biologist Amy to save the locals and bring some calm before swarm.

The week will be filled with eight all-new specials like Shark Feeding Frenzy (July 31, 9-10 PM) and Top 5 Eaten Alive (July 30, 10-11 PM), plus top-rated shark programs from the past — taking over the network’s entire weekly schedule every day from 9AM to 3AM (ET/PT) between Sunday, July 29 and Saturday, August 4. That’s a whole lotta sharks!

Shark Family, a one-hour high-def special about a family whose life work is studying sharks, is scheduled to air on the Dicovery Channel during Discovery’s annual Shark Week this summer. The special is the pilot for a 13-part half-hour series slated for production in 2008.
The Discovery Channel and Animal Planet will simultaneously air Steve Irwin’s last TV project Oceans Deadliest on January 21. Irwin was killed while shooting the show with Phillipe Cousteau. Cousteau, who was aboard Irwin’s boat during the expedition, narrates the 90 minute documentary.
Animal Planet is airing Steve Irwin’s memorial service exclusively in the U.S., commercial-free, on Tuesday, September 19, from 9-10 p.m. ET/PT, with an encore broadcast airing 12-1 a.m. ET/PT. The memorial service, entitled Steve Irwin: He Changed Our World, will be a same-day broadcast (with a two-hour delay) of the event Wednesday morning in Australia.
Bindi Irwin, Steve Irwin’s eight-year-old daughter, has vowed to copy her father and swim with stingrays. Brave Bindi even said she will film the same giant fish who killed her father when she presents her own wildlife TV show Jungle Girl, scheduled to air in January. It was thought Bindi’s show would be axed following his death but she wants to carry on her father’s work. Um, I have a bad feeling about this…
