An Underwater Car. For Real.

squba_a3_580.jpg
Rinspeed has created a car that runs on land and underwater. It’s called the “sQuba” and it’s set to make a splash at the Geneva Auto Show next month.

The sQuba’s top speed on land is about 77 mph, but it slows down to 3 mph on the surface of the water, and 1.8 mph underwater.

Oh, and you’ll need a wetsuit… the car has an open top. For safety reasons, they built the vehicle as an open car so that the occupants can get out quickly in an emergency.

Passengers will be able to keep breathing underwater though, through an integrated tank of compressed air.

Underwater Mask Takes Pictures Too!

specs-goggles.jpg
Check out the Liquid Image Digital Underwater Camera. Great for kids or snorkelers… it lets you take (almost) hands-free images of whatever you might run into down there.

Crosshairs on the goggles help you line up your shot, and you’ll be able to capture video too. You can’t go deeper than 15 feet with it, but you really shouldn’t be venturing any deeper anyways, right?

You’ll be able to get your hands on your choice of a 3.1 or 5.0 megapixel version sometime in March. (Rumored to start at around $100.)

Totally Worth It?

mbn_suit_narrowweb__300×4810.jpg
Now that you’re done buying gifts for everyone else, it’s time to get a little something for yourself. For $23,000 you can get yourself a Neptunic Sharksuit.

Neptunic’s founder says during testing he’s been subjected to thousands of shark bites while sustaining no significant injuries. But a legal disclaimer warns that a shark bite could still cause broken bones and tissue damage, and goes on to say: “We offer no guarantee whatsoever about the usefulness of this product to protect a wearer from injury of any kind under any circumstances.”

Didn’t Cher have one of these in the 80′s?

An Aquarium Inside Your DS!

here fishy…
This December Nintendo DS owners will be able to expand their virtual pet options with the release of Aquarium by DS and Fantasy Aquarium by DS.

The games promise to be just like real life, requiring players to feed the fish and clean the tanks in order to keep the fish healthy. Aquarium by DS will allow player to keep the usual types of fish such as Clown Fish, Angelfish, Neon Tetra and Guppy, while the Fantasy edition will offer the likes of Blue Whales, Dolphins, Seals and SHARKS!

Each game will feature more than 30 types of fish (also some mammals), with more unlockable through good fish care. The player will also be able to name their pets and even have the ability to share and swap fish over Wi-Fi.

Five tanks of differing sizes will be on offer, each customizable with backgrounds, plants and accessories such as rocks and bridges.

If players neglect their fish, not switching on the DS for a few days or simply putting the fish in the wrong environment, then the fish will die and disappear from the tank. Players must also be careful to ensure they choose good combinations of fish in each tank – putting a killer whale in the same tank as a penguin will result in a well fed killer whale and a dead penguin. Hot.

Uh, No Thanks

shark_cage.jpg
For $875 you can get up close and personal with a shark (or several) even if you have no dive training. Incredible Adventures now has two shark diving adventures specifically designed for people with limited or no dive experience. By staffing trips with certified dive instructors and employing the use of onboard air supply systems and custom-built protective shark cages, nearly anyone can experience the sheer terror thrill of seeing sharks in their natural environments.

I think I’ll pass.

If I Could Talk to the Animals…

if i could talk to the animals…
Hollywood descended on the Bahamas this weekend to celebrate the opening of The Cove Atlantis luxury resort. Rob Lowe and Janet Jackson swam with the dolphins while Bo Derek sipped champagne and Tyra slurped on Pina Coladas.
