Octopus Wreaks Havoc on Aquarium

Otto the octopus has been wreaking havoc on his aquarium by performing juggling tricks using his fellow occupants, smashing rocks against the glass and turning off the power by shortcircuiting a lamp.

Staff at the Sea Star Aquarium in Coburg, Germany (where Otto lives) believe he was annoyed by a bright light shining into his aquarium and discovered he could put it out it by climbing onto the rim of his tank and squirting a jet of water at it.

They moved the light, but Otto still juggles his tankmates and throws stones against the glass.

Sounds like Otto needs a time out.

A Six-Legged Octopus?

arthexapus.jpg
English marine experts caught an octopus that’s missing two of its limbs. Usually, when an octopus loses a limb, they grow back. But poor Henry the “hexapus” is missing his limbs due to a birth defect.

And apparently Henry is the first of his kind. Until now, the most famous six-legged octopus was the one that appeared in the 1955 B-movie, ‘It Came From Beneath The Sea.’

I see big things in Henry’s future.

Octopus + Mr. Potato Head = Love

octopusax_450×300.jpg
Louis the octopus has become quite attached to his Mr. Potato Head.

The 6 ft octopus was given the toy for Christmas and is so protective of Mr. Potato that he turns aggressive when aquarium staff try to remove it from his tank.

Louis even learned to dig out food hidden in a secret box on the back of Mr. Potato. I’m guessing that’s probably why he’s so attached to it…

Octopus Discovers Buried Treasure

octopus_treasure2.jpg
An octopus hauled onto a fishing boat had some valuable ancient pottery attached to its suckers.

Korean fisherman Kim Yong-Chul pulled up several octopuses, most of which had shards of pottery attached to their tentacles. One even had a whole plate stuck to it.

The discovery is being hailed as one of the great undersea treasure discoveries of modern times. Officials at the National Maritime Museum in Seoul say the pottery dates back to 12th century.

Mr. Kim will be rewarded by the Museum for his discovery, but just what he will receive is being kept a secret for the time being.

Octi, who was brought to the National Aquarium of New Zealand three months ago by a family who found her in some rock pools, can open a plastic bottle in less than 2-and-a-half minutes with her bare tentacles!
