An fisherman was taken to hospital after a shark lashed out at him, puncturing his arm causing some heavy bleeding.
The 39-year-old local man was fishing two miles south of the Mewstone Rock when the incident happened at around 12.50pm. He is believed to have landed a spur dog, a small deep water shark with a sharp spine on the dorsal fin.
Dave Milford, who went out to recover the man, said: “He’d brought it on board the boat and had been taking the hook out when the spine punctured his right fore arm. “There was a lot of blood – it looked like it could have punctured an artery.”
After receiving a call from the boat, the Plymouth lifeboat attended the scene, bandaged the injured man’s arm and took him off the boat. The Plymouth coastguard team got him ashore at the lifeboat station ay Millbay and he was taken to Derriford Hospital by ambulance.

This pic was snapped at Praa sands, Penzance close to where there have been several reports of large killer sharks in Cornish waters.
The photos were taken by surfer Dan Harding last weekend. Harding noticed the big black shapes in the water and managed to get get a few shots right before the surfer fell off his board.
No man-munching ensued, so I guess the sharks weren’t that hungry.

Stephen Perkins, 52, hauled a Blue Shark on board his boat off Lundy Island in the UK on Saturday but the shark wasn’t in the mood for photos.
As Perkins was preparing to unhook the shark, it sank its teeth into his wrist, earning Perkins a place in history as the first documented case of a man being bitten by a Blue Shark off British waters.
Perkins lost a lot of blood and needed reconstructive surgery. He had to be taken by helicopter to North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple. He was released on Sunday.
The man says he’ll go fishing again, but he’ll will remember to pick the shark up by the blunt end next time.

A tooth from a massive Great White shark found on a British beach adding to the mounting evidence that the man-eaters are moving into British waters.
The razor-sharp fang measured nearly 2½”. That means the beast it came from was probably about 20ft long.
It follows a possible sighting of a Great White last week by a North Sea oil rig crew off the coast of Aberdeen where the man-eater was snapped by a remote-controlled sub.
Last summer The Sun published pictures of what is believed to have been a Great White off the Cornish coast and in January a mutilated seal washed up in Norfolk.
“The tooth is out there.”

Fisherman have been spotting a deadly Blue Shark circling the coast of Hartlepool, UK.
Regular sightings of the blue shark have been made over the past few weeks around the Heugh breakwater and Pilot Pier in Hartlepool.
Probably a good idea not to go swimming… but you can always go check out the Hartlepool Monkey. It’s even got it’s own song.
