Whale on Dolphin Action = Wolphin!

nhybrids127.jpg
Say hello to Kekaimalu the wolphin! Kekaimalu was the result of a bottlenose dolphin and a false killer whale that hooked up.

The two animals mated while working together at Sea Life Park in Hawaii and Kekaimalu was born in 1985.

Kekaimalu is 600lbs and nearly 10ft long. Her color and shape are a mix of that of her mother and father.

But unlike most hybrids, which tend to be sterile, Kekaimalu had two female calfs, both fathered by male bottlenoses.

Moko the Dolphin Rescues Stranded Whales!

Moko the dolphin, a regular visitor to the coast of Mahia on the east Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, became an instant hero after leading two stranded pygmy whales back out to sea.

Moko, who’s been visiting the beach at Mahia on and off over the summer, arrived on the scene in the nick of time.

The disoriented mother and calf had resisted attempts by humans to to be herded back out to sea, and kept restranding on the beach, to the point where they would likely have to be killed.

Then Moko appeared, swam right up to the whales, exchanged some sort of dolphin/whale sounds, and led them out to sea!

Elusive White Killer Whale Caught on Film!

albinowhale.png
The whale was spotted in Alaska last month while scientists aboard a National Oceanic research ship were conducting an acoustic survey of pollock near Steller sea lion haulout sites.

It had been spotted once in the Aleutians years ago but had eluded researchers since.

Whoa Nellie!

A couple got an eyeful as they paddled off the coast of Maui, Hawaii.

The paddlers were shocked when a humpback whale leapt out of the water near their kayak and came crashing down behind them.

The couple high-tailed it back to shore.

Happy Exploding Whale Day!

Today marks the 37th anniversary of the legendary Exploding Whale. The story goes as follows: On this same day in 1970, news reporter Paul Linnman reported on an unusual story that developed into an even more unusual incident. He traveled to the southern coast of Oregon to report on a forty-five foot, eight ton whale that had washed up on shore. The State Highway Division, who was in charge of disposing of the whale, came up with the solution to blow it up with dynamite.

The plan didn’t go as smoothly as they’d hoped. After the wild explosion, huge pieces of whale began to fall dangerously onto the curious crowd of spectators, including Linnman.

Dead Whale Causes Major Stink

deadwhale1.jpg
The rotting cadaver of a dead whale was floating in a Norway fjord on Wednesday, sending a foul odor all over the area. And to make matters worse, it could explode at any time!

Apparently, gases built up in the dead whale’s stomach could result in an enormous fart sending smelly whale parts flying. Carry your umbrellas!

Boy Swims with Whale!

Little Yang Yang began swimming when he was just one year old. Apparently, he always wanted to swim with marine animals and thanks to something called International Spoiled Children’s Day and some people at an aquarium, his dreams have finally come true!
